This past week I decided to give myself that break I kept "talking" about and not doing even though this was the last week of workouts for 2012. Instead of finishing out on the brink of a mini burnout, I took it easy and only worked out when I really wanted to. This only happened during the week days. The break was welcomed and I didn't get that stir crazy feeling I usually get when I have to skip a workout (working 6 days a week for 2 weeks in a row will do that to ya). Maybe since it was Christmas/birthday week I had so much going on and very little free time I was preoccupied. My hip has been quietly requesting a little running break and this time I was listening! But I'm jumping into training for that February sub-2 half starting tomorrow!
Monday night (Christmas eve), Mike & I headed to a friend's get together after a huge Cheesecake Factory dinner. I tend to get the Jamaican Black Pepper Shrimp every time we go. After browsing their "meal manual" for a few minutes, I still gravitated to it. I love spicy food all the time and in mass quantity. Most Cheesecake Factory entree portions could feed a starving family so I limited myself to only 2 pieces of the dark grain bread, ate only 1/4 of the black beans + brown rice served with the dish, and ate half of the slice of Kahlua coffee cheesecake for dessert. I was still stuffed. At the party, there were little smokies/beanie weanies, which happen to be my favorite party food! I somehow managed to find room for about 10 of them + a beer + two eggnog martinis + 2 cups of water. I felt like an overfilled beach ball waddling out of there - push me over and I'd go bouncing down the street...
For some reason Christmas morning (Tuesday) sounded like a good time to go for a run. I woke up with a very slight hangover from those martinis, but a couple glasses of water washed that away. I still felt like I had a small dumpster in my belly though. Time to sweat it out!! Mike planned to do the 'big loop' (7.3 mi loop), but I really only wanted to do 3-4 miles. This was rest week afterall. We left the house and I started out on his pace. By the time we made it to my 1.5 mile turnaround, I was a little winded, but felt okay. Picked it up on the way home and had a nice birthday surprise when I checked my splits. NEGATIVE! This is a first for me, so I was pretty excited. 8:48, 8:37, 8:15, and a little 7:49 dash at the end.
Still on my "negative splits high" for 3 piddly miles, I spent Wednesday in the unknown area (aka weights section) of the gym to get in some crosstraining. This workout is mostly taken from one of Bobbi's with a little bit of row machine thrown in.
Complete each move for 30 seconds. I used a 12.5lb dumbell, a 30lb bar, and a 30lb kettlebell
I definitely felt all those kettle bell swings in my inner thighs the next two days!
I worked long hours the rest of the week(including Saturday) and Mike & I took a quick trip out of town to Melbourne, FL to celebrate a good friend's birthday over Saturday evening and Sunday. We even went to the movies and saw Django Unchained.
How was your week?
What is your favorite meal from Cheesecake Factory?
What was the last movie you saw in the theatre?
Nice job listening to your body! I need to take a lesson from you!
ReplyDeleteThanks D! I learned the hard way!
DeleteGreat job avoiding the burnout! That's where I am now, as much as I love to run, I hate that I need to run because I have an event, not that I want to. I am welcoming a much needed break after march 17 when I have my last race! Yes, I am counting down that far! Good luck with your sub 2 training! Do you have a plan worked out yet? Can't wait to see your progress! I will be there spectating for rock n roll! Happy new yar!
ReplyDeleteI haven't put together a plan on paper, but I have an idea of what I'd like my weeks to shape up to. :) Happy New Year to you too!
DeleteWe just saw Django..omg so good!
ReplyDeleteLots of laughs for sure!!
DeleteSmart taking a mini-break to avoid burnout. I think it's better to do that than to run yourself into the ground and have to take a much longer break later! You're going to rock sub-2 training, and that sub-2 will be yours before you know it! Rock n Roll is a great race to do it, too! I mean, I'm a little partial I think...
ReplyDeleteAnd I love BodyCombat...I miss it so much. Oh Les Mills, where did you go? I really need to get back to weights. I'm lost without it...
Maybe just a little partial ;) But that is a good thing! gives me a little more hope that RnR will be awesome!
DeleteI'm still at LA Fitness, but the couple of remaining LFF instructors that moved over to teach the LA Fitness classes are pretty awesome. Even though they can't "say" what the class really is, it was BodyCombat to a T!!
I saw 007 and before that Twilight!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a meal at the Cheesecake Factory...but I can just imagine the options they have lol
Happy New Year to you!!!
xo
oh man!!! the next time you are anywhere near a Cheesecake Factory - GO! It's not just the desserts that are great - I've never had a bad meal ;)
Deletenice work on those negative splits! it’s been a nice week enjoying time with my family for me. i don’t eat at the cheesecake factory often…and last movie was Argo. Planning on seeing Les Miserables this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I don't eat there often either. Maybe 1x a year. My waistline can't afford much more! :) I have heard so many great things about Les Mis. I am hoping to see it too.
DeleteGreat job listening to your body- it's hard to do! I've learned the hard way a few times to cut back as soon as I feel the beginning of pains to avoid a larger injury.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck training for your sub-2 half!
