HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! WELCOME 2013!
I haven't verbally made resolutions since I was a kid and they didn't mean a whole lot - like making a resolution to stop climbing trees or hiding my brother's toys. Mike asked me why not, and I told him it was because I didn't want to set myself up for failure and disappointment in front of a public audience. And I guess I just don't like the word resolution. For some reason, in my head, I associate it with the word 'No'. Like I can't/won't do 'xyz' in 2013.. or that a resolution means I have something that is a negative issue/problem. Also, you have to wait until January 1 to make them- why not start now? Mike gave me 30 reasons for why I should.
So because I'm weird or using this as a cop out, but who's judging, hmm? ;) setting 'goals' are more my thing. I feel like the word 'goal' gives an intonation of working towards something better and not so 'end of my year' if I don't achieve it. We all know life throws us curveballs. I don't like thinking that a resolution may be broken for the whole year because of something I can't control. I'd rather just have a goal forever.
To recap December's -
Stay away from the dessert bar on the cruise. - Success for the most part. I did have dessert at dinner a couple times.
Recovery properly. - Success. After the Brandon Half, I've been resting and my farthest run has been just over 7 miles.
Try a new workout. - Partially success. I had to put Crossfit off until January
Mail Christmas cards - Success! I managed to mail out over 20 this year to friends and family!
Enjoy birth-mas! I very much did. I was extremely spoiled this year and had a wonderful time.
Don't let the holidays become an excuse to slack on progress. Success. I'm net-0 for lbs gained or lost, my stomach isn't angry, and I don't have a mass amount of sweets left in the house.
So for 2013, here are my main goals!

So for 2013, here are my main goals!
I have a lot of aspirations next year on the fitness front. To accomplish all of these, I'm going to have to RUN SMART. Another injury will pretty much crush all my hopes and dreams for 2013. Mike gifted me(for Birth-mas) a foam roller and The Stick to help me avoid injury. Now I just need to get back out there and log some miles so I can start using my new toys! In the pic, there is a lil' bitty not so subtle hint for what I am praying works out to be my first full marathon- I will know soon!
For the entire year of 2012, I paid off an obscene amount of debt brought on by poor decisions the past 7 years. It took a long time for me to realize that it was a huge $ problem and I spent last year realigning all my expenses. Mike was 100% on board with my goal and was so incredibly generous and thoughtful to give me breaks where ever he saw possible to help me reach this goal. I was on track to be debt free by September until my hip injury. It ended up costing way more than I anticipated, thus, a setback. April 1 is a very lenient time frame, but the point is to be realistic, not unattainable. C'mon tax return!
Since I got a Kindle Fire HD, it has a camera! Now you guys can see my mug yapping away at you instead of just imagining what I might sound like.
I haven't put together a media kit yet! Shame on me. I really want to start working with certain brands that I absolutely love and follow, and this is a necessity. Better get to workin' on my blog's identity!
~~~~~~~~~~
2012 was a fantastic year for me. In fact, it was one of the best personal years I have ever had in every aspect of my life - professional, fitness, personal, you name it - they all got gold stars. I didn't make any resolutions on January 1 then either, but in March - the very first post of this blog, I made a commitment to change my lifestyle. I set a goal and I had no intention to give up my new found love of running or eating better once that goal came and gone. I just chose to set new harder goals once I met the previous ones.
I hope that you take this year to commit yourself to bigger, harder, and many more goals - not just the resolutions!
What are your goals for 2013?
Did you set big goals? No-Why not?
I'll agree to everything you have here. I didn't make resolutions for 2012 and it was one of my better years. I don't plan on making resolutions this year either, but I will sit down and make some goals for 2013.
ReplyDeleteHope you have an injury free year. Adding a video portion could be interesting...looking forward to see what you have in mind.
Thanks! Hope to start them up soon!
DeleteThanks for the post! I realize I forgot to set any blogging goals for myself in 2013. I've made fitness and personal gals, but should have included blogging! Love the idea of video blogs. Thanks for sharing--and for helping me have a better goal-oriented 2013! :)
ReplyDeleteMake one now. The beauty of goals is that you can make them whenever you choose! :)
DeleteGreat goals to stay focused on! Happy new year! Excited!
ReplyDeleteTY! Me too! :) Lots in store!
DeleteI have a very similar list brewing - with financial goals, fitness goals, personal goals, etc. I love your list b/c its very similar, and it does focus on the promotion of positive things, rather than "I will deprive myself of any fun this year by forcing myself into resolutions I can't keep to because they suck."
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your first full marathon! I'm hoping to get back in 1/2 marathons this year. I miss it!
Awesome :) yep, we're in the same boat. I hope your 1/2 marathon goal works out for you!
DeleteExcited for you for MCM! What great goals. I didn't do any blogging goals, but that is an area that I'd like to work on! I want to go to a blogging conference too. I just don't know if I can swing the cost of Fitbloggin' all the way out in Portland. I hope it works out for you to go! I'm looking forward to following along this year with you!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am mega excited! Budget is the deciding factor for Fitbloggin for me too.
Deletegreat goals friend, i like that they are about ALL parts of your life! thats balance!
ReplyDeleteThanks miss! Took a few queues from all the wise words you've got!
Deletethat was wonderful! you have such concrete goals! i know if you set mini goals along the way you will be able to achieve that! i love how sure of yourself you are, it's motivating! can't wait to hear/see how it all goes :)
ReplyDeleteThanks D :) I definitely intend to keep up with the monthly goals which should help keep me on track!
DeleteGreat goals, Beka! I know you will accomplish all of them! Wishing you an awesome 2013!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nanci! <3
DeleteI am going for 13 in 2013 too. Praying we both have an injury free year.
ReplyDeleteI really need to take a lesson from you and pay off some of this credit card debit. I just make so little teaching and living on my own my mortgage is huge. I gotta find a way to get it together more so I can reduce my debit instead of watching it grow.
YES! Mine is still lingering and I don't think it's something that can be "fixed", but I'm going to start looking to other options for managing the pain. Ouchies, that has to be tough. I would have never been able to work on mine as much as I have without Mike's help. He is literally my wallet's saving grace. ;)
DeleteIt is hard being a single teacher. I guess I need my own version of Mike. I make just enough to get by, so PT and a few college course put me in the hole big time.
DeleteMine is still lingering too. I'd love to know what you find out as far as options go.
I love your goals, Beka! Especially the unplug more one. I get so caught up in blogging and all the different social media that I literally have to step away sometimes. Good luck on all your goals, I know you'll rock them out!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It took almost this entire year for me to figure out how to balance the blogging/social media and life, but I'm getting there. I know scheduling posts and having a good routine will help more!
DeleteWoohoo great post. I agree with your setting goals versus resolutions. You have a great plan can't wait to see it unfold. Happy new year!!
ReplyDeleteThanks jess! Hope to see you soon!
DeleteYes- I'm more of a goals/intentions person rather than resolutions, too. Sounds too absolute. You did have an awesome year, and so many great, doable goals for the new year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! :)
DeleteAnd I agree, I like the word 'goals' better too! I might have to copy! I want to go to a blogging conference!
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few! BlogHer, Healthy Living Summit, Fitbloggin' are the top 3 in my head.
DeleteGreat goals for 2013!! You will def get that sub 2 half. :) I'm doing the 13 in 2013 as well, good luck!! Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenelle! I am going to work hard for it :-)
DeleteGreat goals for you!!! I'd love to attend a blogging conference too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kierston :) Perhaps one day we will attend the same one!
Deletecongrats on the 2012 accomplishments, and good luck on the 2013 goals!!!
