Weekly Workouts Roundup + FEAR

Last week was one of the higher mileage weeks I have had in a while!

Monday I decided to try a new instructor's spin class - he is a younger guy, but had a stomach bug that day. Ended up cutting the class short by about 15 minutes. My legs were kind of tired and I sweat pretty good in the 40 minutes we did get after it.

I met up with Kat on Tuesday. It'd been quite a while since we'd been able to run and catch up thanks to my crazy work schedule, I finally had a morning off! The miles flew by! We chatted the entire time and when we hit our 5miles it was almost as if they were effortless.... almost.

After work on Wednesday, it took a lot of motivational browsing (i.e looking at Facebook, Instagram, reading blogs) to get me off the couch and to the gym. I finally did make it and I was really glad that I did. I ended up seeing a friend there (I literally know no one at my gym) shortly after I started my run. She hopped on a treadmill beside me while we chatted a little and laughed at Dumbest Motorheads countdown on Tru Tv treadmill televisions. I ended up starting over on the 5k mode because I hit stop instead of Pause when I saw her. Not a problem though, they were pretty good miles and my legs felt good.

Early Thursday morning, that crazy work schedule allowed me to meet up again for the second time in a week with Kat for speedwork. This was the first time I've done x800s before! We started with a warm up mile, made each 800 a little faster than the previous, then a short cool down. I really enjoyed it. Am I alone or crazy? I felt pretty okay with adding 800s in my workout routine since there isn't much sprinting involved. 100m or 200m I am still nervous about - in fear of hurting myself again.

At 6:30am Saturday morning Mike and I joined the BRA group for the weekly long run. I jumped out of bed stuffed a piece of peanut butter toast and ate a watermelon Gu Chomp when we got to the meet up spot. I love that there are so many runners - that it's easy to break off into subgroups to have someone running your own pace. Mike took off with the faster crowd and I stayed to hang back with P, Kristen, Kat (for our third run together this week), and two new fellas to the group.

This might have been one of my favorite long runs to date. The weather was perfect - a slightly chilly low 40s when we started, but as the sun came up it warmed to about 50. I took another Chomp around mile 3-ish and mile 7. The chatting in our little group of 5 was great and never stopped the entire 11 miles. Although the run was at a more reserved pace than what I've been pushing for lately, I never got tired, never breathed hard, and at the end I felt so good that I washed two cars, went to Ikea (which is a walking marathon in itself), put together a book shelf, ran around the house playing with the cat for hours, and then went out that night - feeling no more tired than a normal day of work.

I'm praying to the running gods that this weekend and next weekend are equally as fantastic for these 2 half marathons in 8 days...

Sunday I went to a quick yoga class before meeting up with the girls for a yummy breakfast and a field trip to Trader Joe's! New instructor (not shocking) but I liked her. She focused on the hips and I was glad, because it was just what I needed.

Speaking of   fear  --- tonight I have my FIRST CROSSFIT WORKOUT.

I'm scared, excited, terrified, nervous, but so ready for the challenge...

Any tips for my first visit to a CrossFit box/WOD?

How do you over come your fitness fears whether it's a fear of (re)injury, a type of workout, or dietary change?

How was your week of workouts?

I'm linking up with Kat, Genna, and Meghan!

  1. Look forward to hearing how your CrossFit Workout goes. I really wanted to try it, but then realized my love of running and triathlon already took up enough time!

  2. Oh my goodness! Have fun at your first WOD! I had all of those same feelings before going into my first class...I described it as "first day of school" nerves. Just go in with a great attitude and everything will be fine! If the box your going to is anything like mine everyone will be friendly and helpful. And definitely make sure they know about any injuries. If your afraid you can't do something there are modifications for everything. Have fun!!

  4. I did crossfit for a few weeks a year ago and then blew out my arm, me being me, not crossfit. My only tip would be that everyone is super nervous when they start and the other people remember that and are really nice to you. I was nervous before every class because I was by far the weakest and WOW - the CLUMSIEST! However, I always felt so much better about myself afterward and really enjoyed the people.

    1. They were so nice!! And the instructor scaled the workout down for me so that I didn't straight out die/puke in the "special orange bucket" the first day. I think they wanted me to come back haha!
