When 45 seconds can make or break it...

You spent 4 months busting your tail training to finish with a new PR and then - womp womp - you have to stop. In some cases, 45 seconds could mean going home with a medal and a smile or  it could mean a medal and a pouty face...Wouldn't you rather blame the 45 second stop on the world's fastest port-o-let breaks and not to tie your shoes?

At first, I only thought that these kinds of laces were necessary for triathletes or for people who had trouble tying their laces for a multitude of reasons.

But lately, I've been seeing these new shoe laces on the "runner/blogger scene" and have wanted to get my hands on them. I actually had a set in my cart ready to checkout when Lock Laces contacted me to try them. You better believe I replied to that email with the quickness!

I was instantly a fan of Lock Laces just from visiting their website and seeing the good they do as a company. They are a propenent of giving back. To me, that is important.... and having a massive color selection doesn't hurt either (black, white, cool gray, brown, hot pink, cotton candy pink, navy blue, purple, orange, red, royal blue, yellow, and sour green apple). All the positive reviews I'd already heard just made this opportunity that much sweeter!

I received a neon green pair (green apple) that matched my Newtons and a pink pair that matched my Asics Rush33s, even though I didn't even ask for the pink ones! Nice right? This actually worked out perfectly. I could test them for running and other workouts in the two different types of shoes.

The instructions were on the back of the packets and very easy to follow. If you accidentally throw your package away, well no biggie cause you can watch it on YouTube or just go to their Instructions page. Just 5 minutes later both sets of shoes were re-laced and ready to go.

Don't they look so pretty now? I like to be matchy-matchy most of the time.

I'll spare you the intricate details of all those runs, spin classes, and workout sessions, but fast forward two weeks later, I have put them through the ringer - running on road, off road, fast runs, slow runs, spin class, circuit workouts, weight training, and just wearing them around the house.

I HATE when the loops/ends of the laces hit my ankles or my other shoes so I have in the past always tucked the hanging parts of laces into the criss-crosses. It drives me bananas. I don't have to do that anymore! Yippeee!!!

  • These laces are no joke - they don't move. I didn't feel them loosen throughout any of the workouts.
  • I didn't have to worry about double knotting.I guarantee I won't have to stop during any more goal races to tie my shoe - that is for certain - bathroom breaks, that is another story...
  • My feet didn't feel as tired after using them thanks to the constant compression applied across my feet by the laces.

Lock Laces inventor Eric Jackson said it best -
"Sometimes it's the little things in life that can really make a big difference."

He hit the nail on the head. After giving Lock Laces a try, I cannot believe just how much attention I really do pay to the little things. Like shoe laces.

In running, we can spend a lot of money on accessories, but treating yourself to a pair of Lock Laces would be a a good use of $8.

If you like to buy in bulk - there is an option online to purchase a pack of 3 sets of laces for $19.99 (Yes, math wizards you save $3.98  in which you can buy yourself a Starbucks grande soy no whip sugar free caramel iced coffee with!)

Would you like to try a pair for free?
I figured you would say yes, so I will be giving a pair away to 1 lucky winner next week as a part of My Favorite Things In Running - Blog's 1st Birthday Giveaway!

Speaking of little things - if you aren't interested in winning a pair and feel the need to spend some greenbacks, Lock Laces is even supporting my bud Kat with her journey to MCM this year by offering the code TLT4C (free shipping+20% of purchase goes to TLT4C charity fund) to buyers. Use it!
I was provided complimentary laces by Lock Laces in exchange for this review.. My opinions and review are my own.

  3. I HATE tying my shoes... With that being said, I actually have two pairs of lock laces (they always came with my Asics) that I have never used. Time to stop being lazy (start using them) so I can start being lazy (not tying shoes).

  5. I love LockLaces too. I have the same pink and green. I bought purple for my sis, because we BOTH had to stop and tie our shoes during our last mud run together.

  10. What a great invention. it's always the little things like this that make me wonder, why had I not thought of something like that? But you are right, we don't always think about the simple things. The race, the shoes, the big picture is always what comes to mind first.
